IL PROGETTO // OUR PROJECT

Attento a me, attenta ai tuoi passi!”.

Ulaanbaatar, a city of steel and mortar that lies in the vast steppe, is the place where to our protagonist lands to undertake a journey around Mongolia.  After losing her job in Italy, she has decided to take a vacation from the everyday and visit the immense grasslands of Central Asia, looking for peace and leisure. But she will not find it here, not in Ulaanbaatar.
The city is a must to every visitor arriving in Mongolia, a mandatory stage when reaching out to the rest of the nomadic country. This is the place where a maze of shops spread in the basements of the buildings; where the roads are bumpy and dusty, the power cables hang from buildings like cobwebs, all shouting "Look at me! Watch your steps, I challenge you!”.This is where in exchange of attention the city awards every guest with its heavenly sky, that turns into flaming fire as soon as the sun fades, spinning the geometries of the blocks with stunning shadows. The sparkle in the sky of Ulaanbaatar, she believes, tell the truth of country that is called the Land of Blue Sky.Here evidences of an ancient wickedness will come together in the hands of our protagonist, bringing back to life a secret battle that has been hidden in the depths of history.
Something has happened eight centuries ago, far south, in the Gobi Desert  only surrounded by sand, air and the same blue sky that she already met in Ulaanbaatar. There, a war that no one remembers occurred. Among rocks and sand, an archer of the great Mongol Empire fought a war now erased from the history, a repressed memory that is to see light again.

What we are speaking about?

We are going to create a graphic novel, in other words a self-contained comic story, a genre that combines literature and visual art. The drawings will recall atmosphere and feelings, light and essence of places and characters, giving them life and colors in order to engage the reader in a winsome tale. In about  hundred and fifty pages we will tell two different stories: one of the archer from ancient age and one of the tourist of a contemporary time, who step by step will come to find evidence of a mysterious secret. Crossing each other, the two timelines will reveal the forgotten events. Our inspiration comes from the reality that we have lived for the past year: Mongolia and Ulaanbaatar, a very unique place, where it seems that anything can happen.Who were the enemies of the empire? Who are the mysterious people that the archer will fight? And finally, what happened, so shameful that it needed to be erased from the history?

Aims

To fully realize the graphic novel is our first goal. In order to do that, we will focus on historical research, script drafting, realization of faithful sketches of warriors, boards drawing and all the efforts necessary to complete the product.
The graphic novel will be available in Italian and English versions as a digital file.
The second goal will be publish a hardcover book in Mongolian language (or bilingual  Mongolian/ English) and distribute it through a Mongolian publisher who is willing to support the project. The next step will be a printed Italian version.

Currently we are putting our efforts towards the historical background research, character design and screenplay and all other tasks that the realization of the graphic novel requires to be great. In addition, we are about start a crowd-funding campaign to reach our first goal. We would kindly ask for a small contribution towards expected and unexpected expenses (Mongolia is not predictable!) to work with serenity and passion to achieve a unique and surprising story.
